Chandler is a city located in Murray County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 276.
Geography
Image:MNMap-doton-Chandler.png According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
On June 16, 1992, Chandler was struck by a devastating F5 tornado that completely destroyed half of the town, most of which has since been rebuilt.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 276 people, 113 households, and 72 families residing in the city. The population density was 131.6/km² (342.7/mi²). There were 121 housing units at an average density of 57.7/km² (150.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.46% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.81% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 17.39% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 113 households out of which 24.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% were married couples living together, 3.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 33.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 26.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 19.2% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 27.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 102.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $26,875, and the median income for a family was $38,542. Males had a median income of $30,417 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,134. 15.1% of the population and 6.8% of families were below the poverty line. 27.3% of those under the age of 18 and 14.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.io:Chandler, Minnesota
