Chewin' the Fat
From Free net encyclopedia
Chewin' the Fat is a comedy series set in Scotland, starring Ford Kiernan, Greg Hemphill and Karen Dunbar.
It first started as a radio series on BBC Radio Scotland. The television show was first broadcast on BBC One Scotland but series 3 and 4, as well as highlights from the first two series, were later broadcast to the rest of the UK. Although the last series ended in February 2002, every year there is a 'Hogmanay Special' shown on New Year's Eve on BBC One Scotland, and regular 'greatest hits' series are shown.
Recurring characters include the bad actor Ronald Villiers; abusive Harry with his long-suffering wife Linda and family friend George; Betty, an OAP with X-rated memories of the Second World War; the Lonely Shopkeeper; the Computer Salesmen and the Lighthouse Keepers who coined the Scots phrase "Gaunae no dae that."
Chewin' the Fat also gave birth to two spin-off shows, Still Game, which focused on the two old men in the show, Jack and Victor, and The Karen Dunbar Show, which is a sketch show featuring Karen Dunbar.
The series was mostly filmed in around Glasgow, and occasionally West Dunbartonshire.
