Christopher Pyne

Christopher Maurice Pyne (born 13 August, 1967), Australian politician, has been a Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives since March 1993, representing the Division of Sturt, South Australia. He was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and was educated at the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. He was a solicitor and a research assistant to Senator Amanda Vanstone before entering Parliament. He is a leading member of the moderate faction in the South Australian wing of the party.
Early life
In 1993, at the age of 25, Christopher Pyne was elected to the House of Representatives for the seat of Sturt.
Australian Politics
Christopher is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing.
In his time in Parliament he has been Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Family and Community Services and Chairman of the Electoral Matters and Communications, IT and the Arts Committees of the House of Representatives.
Before entering Parliament, Christopher practised as a solicitor and was a senior member of the Liberal Party, serving on both the Federal Executive (1990-91) and the South Australian State Executive (1988 92).
Christopher has written for The Adelaide Advertiser, The Sunday Mail, The Adelaide Review, The Australian Financial Review and The Australian newspapers, as well as The Bulletin magazine. He regularly appears on radio and television as a commentator and advocate.
Christopher is a member of many community, social and sporting groups in his electorate, and is a strong supporter of the mighty Redlegs Football Club!
Christopher is married to Carolyn and is the father of Eleanor, Barnaby and Felix. To relax he enjoys reading Australian, US and European history, gardening, following AFL football and spending time with family and friends.
Pyne was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Family and Community Services 2003-04 and has been Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing since October 2004.
