Claudio Sanchez

From Free net encyclopedia

Claudio Paul Sanchez (born March 12, 1978) is the lead singer and guitarist for Coheed and Cambria, a progressive rock group. Coheed and Cambria formed from a trio called "Shabutie" in 1995 but changed their name, and a few band members, in 2001. They have released 3 albums: The Second Stage Turbine Blade, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, and Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV: Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness. Sanchez also writes all of the band's lyrics and most of their primary song riffs, as well as The Bag On Line Adventures comic series, which recounts the science fiction story of Coheed and Cambria in further detail. He is noted for his wide vocal range, often extending into the higher scales in the manner of Geddy Lee, lead singer of the progressive rock band Rush and for his big and curly hair. While primarily playing rhythm during his vocals, Sanchez also plays lead, often alternating with guitarist Travis Stever in a "dueling guitar solo" fashion.

He is of mixed Puerto Rican and Italian heritage, and is one of 4 children in his family. He also stated to be raised Roman Catholic, but is hardly religious. Unlike his onstage persona, Sanchez is actually very quiet and even shy, which also stems from his childhood. In early 2006, Coheed and Cambria was forced to cancel several European tour dates after Sanchez broke his hand while "sparring" with younger brother Matthew, a professional boxer.

Sanchez is also in a side project called The Prize Fighter Inferno, which has released three songs, including "The Missing McCloud Boys" (formerly entitled I'm Going To Kill You). Sanchez also appears on his bandmate Travis' side project dubbed Fire Deuce (backing vocals) which released Children of the Deuce in 2005, an 80s style rock album reminiscent of Iron Maiden - hence the album's title.

According to an interview with Josh Eppard in Alternative Press [1], "Claudio has a hip hop side project that no one will ever hear."

Another topic of debate is Claudio's hair. The hair has changed many times and is the subject of many forums on the fansite cobaltandcalcium.com [2]. In the Shabutie days it was worn very very short, the complete opposite of the current. During the tour in 2004 Sanchez had it dyed black and had blonde highlights at the bottom.

Claudio uses a wide range of Gibson guitars including both white and red double-neck SGs, a red natural finish Explorer E2, a white 1958 Explorer, a black Explorer, a white Flying V, and an alpine white Les Paul. During the tour for Coheed and Cambria's first album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, he used white and red SGs. His Explorers, as well as his double neck SG, have been modified with active EMG pickups (EMG 81 in the bridge position, EMG 85 in the neck position)Template:Fact. He also uses Taylor and Ovation acoustic guitars and is currently using Bogner Uberschall amplifiers. In addition to this equipment, he has been known to use Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters while recording. Template:Fact
