Cleveland is a city located in Liberty County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,605.
It is named after Charles Lander Cleveland, a local judge who donated land to the Houston East-West Texas Railway for use as stop under the condition that it was named for him.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²). 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Cleveland's northern boundary is made by the Sam Houston National Forest.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 7,605 people, 2,645 households, and 1,758 families residing in the city. The population density was 610.5/km² (1,580.5/mi²). There were 2,976 housing units at an average density of 238.9/km² (618.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 58.65% White, 27.13% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 11.58% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. 20.51% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,645 households out of which 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.4% were married couples living together, 19.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.27.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $24,164, and the median income for a family was $28,527. Males had a median income of $28,385 versus $17,889 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,562. 22.4% of the population and 19.3% of families were below the poverty line. 31.8% of those under the age of 18 and 16.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Highways
The major route traveling through Cleveland is US 59, traveling southwest towards Houston and north east into East Texas to Cities of Livingston, Lufkin, and Nachadoches, and onward to Shreveport, Louisiana. US 59 is planned to be changed into the I69 Corridor. State highway 105 travels east and west, and Cleveland is roughly the halfway point between Beaumont and Navasota. State Highway 321 is also known as 105 until 105 turns east to Beaumont, and 321 continues roughly 20 miles further south into Dayton.
Railroads
Cleveland is the meeting point of 2 rail lines. One north/southbound Union Pacific line that closely follows the path of US59. The other is a east/west bound Burlington Northern Sante Fe line that roughly follows FM 787 to the east, and State 105 west towards Conroe.
