Collierville, Tennessee
From Free net encyclopedia
Collierville is a town located in Shelby County, Tennessee. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 31,872. More recent estimates hint that the city's population is nearing 40,000 people due to extensive housing starts in the area over the past few years.
Like its western neighbor, Germantown, Collierville is a suburb of Memphis. Also like Germantown, Collierville is a mainly upscale town of large houses and some retail. But, unlike its neighbor, much still remains of the "old" town in Collierville, when it was less of a suburb than it was a self-contained community. Those smaller houses, and some industry, still dot the landscape in Collierville.
Among the many amenities in this swiftly growing community are the Historic Square, in Collierville's downtown area. This quaint shopping destination boasts trendy shops, fun eateries, and a tree-lined park, all overlooking the old train depot, from which the City grew.
Collierville is also home to the new Avenue Carriage Crossing, an 800,000+ sq. ft. shopping center which opened in November 2005. Baptist Hospital, Collierville, also serves the medical needs of Collierville's residents, often relieving the need to drive to Memphis for care.
Collierville is also the location for the FedEx World Technology Headquarters, located on the western edge of Collierville on Bailey Station.
