Color breed
From Free net encyclopedia
A colour breed is a system where horses are registered predominately based around the development of certain horse coat colors, regardless of the horse's actual breed. For example, many different breeds, such as Quarter Horses, Paints, and Saddlebreds come in the palomino color, as well as a wide variety of different colors. However, the Palomino Horse Breeders Association (PHBA) accepts only palomino horses of certain breeds. Thus, the Palomino can be considered a color breed.
Appaloosas, American Paint Horses, and others that come in colorful coats are often considered a Color breed, but they technically aren't. Appaloosas are desired to be spotted, but that is not a requirement for the breed. Paint horses that are not painted, likewise, may be registered.
A color breed would only register certain colors, often regardless of breed.
