Personal
Corey Taylor, born Corey Joshua Taylor December 8, 1973, is the lead singer of the metal band Slipknot and vocalist of the Hard Rock band Stone Sour, the latter being formed prior to the commercial success of Slipknot. He is a 5.9 ft tall. Before his debut in a music career, Taylor worked in an sex shop called "The Adult Emporium". In Slipknot, he goes by the pseudonym "8", wearing at first a dreadlocked mask and later a new, almost reptilian design, both of which somewhat resemble the mask of Leather Face, the chainsaw wielding maniac of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He has said that the mask is somewhat painful for him to wear, but that only intensifies his singing. He lives in Des Moines, Iowa. He married his long-time girlfriend, Scarlett, on March 11, 2004. They have a son named Griffin Parker Taylor who was born September 17, 2002. He is considered a rollmodel frontman due to his attitude onstage, the respect that he shows for the audience and the way he treats fans offstage (he is constantly haunt by fans in airports and after shows and he always responds with a nice and talkative attitude). He used to have an alcohol problem but thanks to his wife Scarlett, he overcome that addiction.
Masks
Image:Corey Taylor Mask.jpg Corey Taylor's mask, which was initially a leather face cover, is equipped with brown/blonde dreads. Some of the dreads were made of his real hair. He used to wear them through the mask, but he cut them off due to it being painful to pull them through and his always changing his hairstyle. Later, his mask was made out of moulded latex instead of leather. Currently, Corey has a face-mask with a strap that runs behind his head (pictured right). It is a dark green/grey-ish, and has expressions of stitches molded into it. He doesn't have dreads anymore, and his own purple/blue/red-dyed hair is on display. This mask has also decreased the muffling of his voice caused by the older one.
"Death"
In late 2004, unfounded rumors spread throughout the Internet that Taylor had died from an overdose, or alternately, a car accident. Apparently, many people took this rumor seriously. Slipknot fans and even family members called him and his girlfriend, asking if he was alright. In the end to clarify things, Taylor even had to make the official statement, "I am not dead, motherfuckers".
Glam Rock Influences
Corey taylor said in "Glam Rock Monthly Magazine" (issue 256) that "I have a great deal of respect for glam rock; a fair deal of Slade and Wizzard has been shoehorned into Slipknot. For example, the scratching that can be heard on "Wait and Bleed" is taken from a Gary Glitter song called "Do You Want To Be In My Gang". The interview continues with Corey saying, "I was actually considering forming a 10 piece glam rock superband with Trent Reznor and an up and coming British act. I think we were going to call it Windsor."
