Correction tape
From Free net encyclopedia
Correction tape is an alternative to correction fluid used to correct mistakes during typing or in some forms, writing. The tape has white, opaque material on one side. Pressure applied on the other side transfers the masking material onto the paper, by pressing the key that matches the charector one wishes to mask. As it is applied as a solid instead of a fluid form, correction tape is less likely to be ingested than correction fluid. Furthermore it is not an addictive substance for sniffing unlike most correction fluids.
It is sold as short pieces of tape or as long rolls to be used in specialized typewriters. The roller system used for the application of correction tape is liable to jamming. Furthermore, it can only practically be used with typewriters as pressure must be applied in exactly the same spot as the written material.
Some versions of correction tape are sold in separate dispensers that are used to roll the tape onto paper directly.
The IBM Selectric typewriter also offered a "correction tape" that was actually a lift-off tape for use with its carbon film typewriter ribbons.
