Covington, Indiana

Covington is a city located on the Western edge of Fountain County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,565. The city is the county seat of Fountain CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Covington is located at 40°8'26" North, 87°23'35" West (40.140518, -87.393106)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.0 km² (1.2 mi²). 3.0 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. It is bounded on the West by the Wabash River and on the South by Interstate 74.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 2,565 people, 1,092 households, and 714 families residing in the city. The population density was 846.5/km² (2,196.1/mi²). There were 1,175 housing units at an average density of 387.8/km² (1,006.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.75% White, 0.04% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.51% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 1,092 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 31.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.79.
In the city the population was spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $40,432, and the median income for a family was $48,792. Males had a median income of $32,313 versus $24,079 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,776. 7.4% of the population and 3.6% of families were below the poverty line. 10.1% of those under the age of 18 and 7.5% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
