Cure Autism Now

Template:Autism cure movement Cure Autism Now, or CAN, is a national organization dedicated to finding a cure for autism. The group funds research (such as genetic research) to this end. CAN was founded in 1995 by Portia Iversen and Jon Shestack, parents of a lower-functioning son, Dov, who has been diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder. CAN funds the world's largest repository of DNA samples for autism research, known as AGRE. CAN supports Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other skills-based therapies despite ABA's abusive practices. The organization is considered controversial by some in the autism rights movement who, based on the premise autism is a difference in cognition rather than a disorder, reject the notion that it should be cured.
