Deep River is a city located in Poweshiek County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 288.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 288 people, 120 households, and 80 families residing in the city. The population density was 264.8/km² (681.1/mi²). There were 135 housing units at an average density of 124.1/km² (319.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 1.04% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 120 households out of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were married couples living together, 5.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.98.
Age/Gender Breakdown: 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 87.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $33,438, and the median income for a family was $46,875. Males had a median income of $29,643 versus $17,639 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,437. 5.6% of the population and 4.9% of families were below the poverty line. 5.6% of those under the age of 18 and 10.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
Origin of name
The Deep River flows nearby; it is a minor tributary of the English River. The town and its namesake river were named not for the depth of the water in the Deep River, but for the depth of the ravine through which it flows.
