Def Jam Vendetta is a video game. It was released for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube.
Gameplay
The game's release was very hyped by EA, and highly anticipated by many fans due to the developer of the game, Aki, and their past with wrestling games on the Nintendo 64. The game featured a largely unmodified "AKi engine" with some minor button mashing elements added, no create a wrestler mode, and significantly speedier gameplay. The game plays very similarly to WWF No Mercy, and features a lengthy story mode that allows you to level up and enhance one of four player characters in your quest to become the most well known star in this urban fighting league.
Reaction
The response to the game was mainly positive, with fans citing the basic gameplay and the presentation as suberb, but many lamented the loss of key Aki features such as "Gimmick matches" like the ladder match and the cage match, plus the lack of any true create-a-wrestler mode.
When you choose your character you are called to help out your friend Manny by taking his place as a street fighter. Once you've beaten Scarface, you get your first girlfriend, Deja. other girls come up to you and you have to choose which one you prefer as your girlfriend and they'll fight each other.
Eventually, N.O.R.E will challenge you to a fight at Grimeyville and not so long after Manny signs you and him up for a tag team tournament where in the final after three fights, you take on the champions Method Man and Redman and inbetween there's more solo fights including a fight in Club Luda with Ludacris, when your girlfriend leaves with a lesbian.
DMX challenges you but 1st you have to overcome what the Dragon House has to offer then you fight your tag team final against Method Man and Redman. After that Manny tells you to stop fighting but you ignore Manny and fight DMX with protective gear sent to you by Angel (your girlfriend who was taken by D-Mob) and once you beat DMX your sent an email by Angel being told We need to talk but D-mob sends House, Pockets and Snowman to stop you from coming to Def Jam tournament but as soon as you beat them, Manny knocks you out with a baseball bat and joins D-Mobs side.
You go to the Def Jam tournament and once you fight through WC, Capone, Ghostface Killah and Keith Murray you fight D-Mob, but before that he trys to shoot you but Manny (Now on D-Mobs side) tries to stop him but D-Mob shoots Manny and your character knocks D-Mob over and you have the fight and when you beat D-Mob, you go off with Angel with D-Mob being arrested and Manny being treated after being shot and Manny thinks you ignore him but just after you pass him, you smile at him.
Vendetta was followed by a sequel called Def Jam: Fight for NY.
