Delaware County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2000, the population is 118,769. The county seat is Muncie6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,025 km² (396 mi²). 1,019 km² (393 mi²) of it is land and 7 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.66% water.

History
Delaware County was formed in 1827. It was named for the Delaware, a Native American people.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 118,769 people, 47,131 households, and 29,692 families residing in the county. The population density was 117/km² (302/mi²). There were 51,032 housing units at an average density of 50/km² (130/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 90.73% White, 6.72% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. 1.10% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 47,131 households out of which 27.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.50% were married couples living together, 10.90% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.00% were non-families. 28.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.40% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the county the population was spread out with 22.10% under the age of 18, 16.90% from 18 to 24, 25.60% from 25 to 44, 21.90% from 45 to 64, and 13.50% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.20 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $34,659, and the median income for a family was $45,394. Males had a median income of $36,155 versus $23,268 for females. The per capita income for the county was $19,233. 15.10% of the population and 9.00% of families were below the poverty line. 15.70% of those under the age of 18 and 8.00% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
