Delaware Township is a township located in Sanilac County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 930.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 120.6 km² (46.6 mi²). 120.6 km² (46.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.02% is water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 930 people, 359 households, and 258 families residing in the township. The population density was 7.7/km² (20.0/mi²). There were 643 housing units at an average density of 5.3/km² (13.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.42% White, 0.00% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.94% from two or more races. 2.47% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 359 households out of which 29.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% were married couples living together, 5.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 26.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the township the population was spread out with 26.6% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 107.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.5 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $35,568, and the median income for a family was $42,083. Males had a median income of $27,303 versus $20,714 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,451. 11.4% of the population and 8.3% of families were below the poverty line. 7.9% of those under the age of 18 and 14.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
