From Free net encyclopedia

The Delhi Durbar, meaning, "Court of Delhi", was a mass assembly which took place in 1911 outside Delhi in India. It was held to commemorate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary as Emperor and Empress of India. They attended the function wearing the Imperial Crown of India. Many princes and kings of India were invited, along with other landed gentry. For pictures and text of the Durbar of 1911 click this Coronation Durbar 1911. These are taken from a book published in 1912 called "The King and Queen in India".

There is also a tiara belonging to the present Queen called the Delhi Durbar Tiara, which was recently worn by the Duchess of Cornwall to a ball where she met the Norwegian Royal Family.
