Dendral

From Free net encyclopedia

Dendral was one of the earliest expert systems. It was designed to analyse mass spectra. Based on the mass of fragments seen in the spectra, it would be possible to make inferences as to the nature of the molecule tested, identifying functional groups or even the entire molecule. In the lab this can be a very difficult process. As a note, Dendral did contain rules, but it worked differently from most expert systems. Systems like Mycin may be more typical. Template:Chem-stub
