Derby Line, Vermont

Derby Line is a village of Derby, Vermont located in Orleans County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 776.
The village is located upon the Canada-USA border and is contiguous with the village of Rock Island (Stanstead), Québec.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 776 people, 329 households, and 225 families residing in the village. The population density was 410.4/km² (1,057.5/mi²). There were 364 housing units at an average density of 192.5/km² (496.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.78% White, 0.39% African American, 0.90% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. 0.13% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 329 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.80.
In the village the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.0 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $33,966, and the median income for a family was $37,375. Males had a median income of $30,208 versus $21,667 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,202. 12.8% of the population and 11.4% of families were below the poverty line. 17.8% of those under the age of 18 and 11.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
