Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, usually abbreviated to DA-IICT, is an educational institution situated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. It is named after the Gujarati entrepreneur and Reliance group founder Dhirubhai Ambani. It is run by the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation and is promoted by Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises.
The Vision and Genesis of DA-IICT

The vision was to create a world-class institution which would serve as a catalyst and a change agent for the development of a culture for Information and Communication Technology and would actively participate in the fructification of the National Action Plan for Information Technology.
DA-IICT is an academic institution promoted by the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation and the Reliance Group, primarily aimed to impart Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education of international standards. Established amidst the lush green corridor of Gandhinagar, Gujarat , DA-IICT lives for furtherance of education, research, and training in ICT. DA-IICT commenced activities from August 2001. The institute offers a whole spectrum of education, research, and training programs in ICT at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels designed to cater to the learning needs of students and researchers and continuing education requirements of working executives, practicing professionals, and government officials.
With a strong multidisciplinary approach to develop technology experts with a well-rounded personality and multifunctional skill base and the course curriculum in the educational offerings which capture the latest and the emerging body of knowledge with a commitment to keep it dynamic and futuristic, DA-IICT provides an interrelationship of national and global participation in the field of information and communication technology and its allied fields.
DA-IICT is a research led institute which houses world class facilities such well equipped labs with latest equipment and software, modern lecture theaters, a multi-cuisine canteen and on campus residence. The research concentration for the faculty at DA-IICT lies in areas mentioned below:

The B. Tech. (ICT) Program
Today, communication engineers require IT skills and IT engineers need a good grasp of communication technology. The B Tech (ICT) program reflects this convergence of communication and computer systems, and is expected to create a new brand of engineers having an in-depth knowledge of electronics, communication engineering and computer systems, along with excellent IT skills, so as to be able to exploit the flexibility of software-driven systems and signal processing.
The core courses form the backbone of the program, emphasizing fundamentals and including a strong coverage of Mathematics. Professional subjects are introduced right from the beginning, enabling the students to choose areas of specialization properly.
A carefully planned set of courses in the humanities, social sciences, and management provides understanding of the social and cultural context of technology.
Summer Internships enable students to gain real-life experience and develop practical application skills. Technical (ICT) electives, Open electives and the final project in the last four semesters prepare the students for creative professional careers in a telecom or IT industry.
Post Graduate Programs
DA-IICT runs five degree programs at the post-graduate level:
M Tech (ICT) - A unique program combining the essential ingredients of Information and Communication Technology, offering specialized areas of research.
MS (IT) - A 2-year program oriented towards software design and development for all graduates with aptitude for mathematics and computers.
MS (IT in Agriculture) - A 2-year program derived to equip agriculture scientists and engineers with relevant knowledge and skills in Information Technology.
M.Des - A new distinctive 2-year program to impart a multidisciplinary training for effective design and creative usage of digital multimedia. Ph D - A doctoral program in any of the areas of research interest of the institute, comprising of various fields ranging from Humanities to Technology.
Academic Infrastructure
The Institute has 3 lecture theatres (250-300 capacity) and about 20 smaller classrooms, all equipped with modern projection systems.
It has a well-furnished library with spacious study rooms.
All practical classes are conducted in a fully air-conditioned laboratory building, having a total floor space of 30,000 sqft. The equipment available in the laboratory building includes over 400 computers and a variety of electronic test equipment. Placements
The first batch of DA-IICT, consisting of postgraduates, passed out in 2004. The first batch of graduates (students of the Bachelor program) passed in 2005.
Many from the first batch have been placed in prestigious companies of India such as Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance Infocomm, Persistent Systems Private Limited,MindTree, Infosys, Cadence, SUN Microsystems, ARM and Hewlett-Packard and the institute has been able to achieve 100 % placements in the first batch itself.
Faculty
The institute is research-oriented ,has very good faculty in the areas of IT, Electronics and anthropology with professors like Sanjay Chaudhary and Sanjay Srivastava in the areas of IT, Dipankar Nagchoudhuri, R.N.Biswas in the areas of electronics and VLSI design, Prof. V.P. Sinha, Prof. Vijay Kumar Chakka in the areas of communications and DSP, Professors like Shiv Viswanathan and Ganesh Devy in the area of humanities , Profs like Gautam Dutta in Physics, Prof. Anil Roy in the area of Optical Physics. There is also special emphasis on Design and professors like Binita Desai undertake courses on design and application.
