Dishwalla
From Free net encyclopedia
Dishwalla is a post-grunge alternative rock band from Santa Barbara, California. They are made up of band members Jim Wood (keyboards), Rodney Browning Cravens (guitar master), J.R. Richards (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), Pete 'Cash' Maloney (drums and general percussive energy) and Scot Alexander (bass). George Pendergast played drums for the band until 1998, and was replaced by Pete Maloney. The band's name comes from an Indian term for a person who uses illegal equipment to descramble a satellite signal and share it with their neighborhood.
Dishwalla became popular in 1996 due to their hit single "Counting Blue Cars" from their album "Pet Your Friends". They are considered by some to be a one-hit wonder because of the relatively huge success of this single compared to later works by the band. However, with each successive concert appearance and album release, Dishwalla has proven to still have a considerable fan following. In 1999 The WB series Charmed even spotlighted the band as cast members in the episodes "The Painted World" and "The Devil's Music". The collapse of A&M Records, Dishwalla's label with Pet Your Friends, and And You Think You Know What Life's About, may have contributed more to Dishwalla being considered a one-hit wonder than their level of talent. The release of the CD entitled Opaline showcases the individual acoustic ability of each member of the band. A live album, Live...Greetings from the Flow State, is also considered by fans to showcase the band's performance ability and the reasoning behind their fan appeal.
