Dorian Yates

Image:Dorianyates.jpg Dorian Yates (born April 19, 1962 in Sutton Coldfield, England), is the most successful professional British bodybuilder to date and has won the Mr. Olympia title six times (1992-1997). Yates became known for his massive back muscles and is considered by some in bodybuilding to set the standard for back development in future Mr. Olympia contestants.

Early life

As a teenager Yates lived by himself in Birmingham. He was involved with karate and was introduced into lifting weights for his karate training. This experience helped his self-confidence and gave him a newfound sense of direction in bodybuilding.

Books and video

In 1993 Yates published an autobiography titled Blood and Guts. In 1996 Yates released a workout video of the same title; featuring his typical week's weight training. In 1998 he co-authored A Warrior's Story in which he writes how he became the top professional bodybuilder.

Post competiton career

Yates purchased a gym in 1987 called Temple Gym in Birmingham and more recently formed his own bodybuilding supplement company.
