Drones Club
From Free net encyclopedia
The fictional Drones Club, located in Dover Street, London, (where a real club, the Arts Club, is based) was created by English comic novelist P. G. Wodehouse. It features in many of his Jeeves and Wooster and Blandings Castle stories.
A drone is a male bee or ant that does no work, living off the labour of others - which aptly describes the attitude toward labour held by most of the rich, idle young men who are members of the Drones Club.
Prominent Drones include:
- Bertram "Bertie" Wooster
- Augustus "Gussie" Fink-Nottle
- Cyril "Barmy" Fotheringay-Phipps (pronounced fungy-fipps)
- Oofy Prosser
- Freddie Widgeon
- Claude "Catsmeat" Potter-Pirbright
- Pongo Twistleton
- Boko Fittleworth
- Hildebrand "Tuppy" Glossop
- Bustopher Jones
Drones Club Today
There is currently an exclusive members-only Club based in London called The Drones Club. Previously owned by Marco Pierre White and Piers Adam, the Club was purchased by Ben Goldsmith, the youngest son of Sir James Goldsmith, in 2004. There are actually two Drones Clubs: one on Pont Street and a smaller club on St George's Street. The current chef is the Italian Massimo Tagliaferri, who used to work with Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's, and is well known for his pastries and desserts. Current membership includes people from the upper echelons of society, from pop stars to peers, CEOs to princesses.
