Drusus Julius Caesar, also referred to as Drusus III (AD 7 – 33), was a member of a noble family of ancient Rome. He was a son of Germanicus and Agrippina the elder.
He married Aemilia Lepida III – Daughter of Marcus Aemilius Lepidus - whose second cousin he was. Tacitus reports that during their marriage "she had pursued her husband with ceaseless accusations". In 36 AD (?) she was charged with adultery with a slave and committed suicide, "since there was no question about her guilt" (Annals 6.40).
His paternal grandparents were Drusus I and Antonia Minor. His maternal grandparents were Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa and Julia the Elder. He was adopted by his paternal great-uncle Tiberius after Tiberius' own son Drusus II died. Drusus Caesar was later accused of plotting against Tiberius and was imprisoned in 30, a year after his mother Agrippina the Elder and his brother Nero Caesar were arrested. He starved to death in prison in 33, reduced to chewing the stuffing of his bed (Tacitus, Annals 6.23).
His siblings included four brothers (Tiberius and Gaius Julius, who died young; Nero, and Caligula) and three sisters (Julia Livilla, Drusilla and Agrippina the younger).
