- For the Douro (the Portuguese spelling / pronuciation for the river), see Douro.
The river Duero (or Douro as it's called in Portugal) crosses the Iberian Peninsula in the north of Spain & Portugal. The total length of the river is 897 km. The river forms part of the national border line between Spain & Portugal but only changes name from Duero to Douro at Vega de Terron as it finally crosses completely into Portugal.
The source of the Duero is close to Duruelo de la Sierra in the province of Soria. It meanders through five significant provinces of the autonomous community of Castilla & Leon; Soria, Burgos, Valladolid, Zamora and Salamanca.
