From Free net encyclopedia
Edison Denisov (Эдисон Денисов, April 6, 1929 - November 24, 1996) was a Russian composer from Tomsk, Siberia. He studied mathematics, before deciding to spend his life composing. He wrote a flute concerto for Aurèle Nicolet, a violin concerto for Gidon Kremer, and also works for the oboist Heinz Holliger and the clarinettist Eduard Brunner. Moreover, he composed a sonata for alto saxophone and piano for Jean-Marie Londeix.
His sombre but striking Requiem is based on a multi-lingual text (English, French, German and Latin) based on works by Fransciso Tanzer, and was given its first performance in Hamburg in 1980.
In later life Denisov moved to France, where he died in Paris in 1996.
