Empty Glass
From Free net encyclopedia
"Empty Glass" can be seen as Pete Townshend's "coming out" album, a solo work that delves deeply into issues of bisexuality and alcoholism, but never entirely explicitly--as in earlier lyrics of songs recorded by The Who, Townshend's work tends only to hint at autobiography. The title track is a self-portrait of Townshend's struggle with alcoholism and the emptiness of stardom. "Rough Boys" records a frustrated sexuality revolving around an attraction to men, mixed with an eroticizing of macho driven street violence. "And I Moved" is a more erotic ballad that is written about a man by a man. The catchy "Let My Love Open The Door" is probably the least introspective of all the songs on the album but it also became the most popular.
