Engineering mechanics

Engineering mechanics, also called Applied mechanics, or Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, is a branch of the physical sciences which looks to understand the actions and reactions of bodies at rest or in motion. Much of modern engineering mechanics is based on Isaac Newton's laws of motion while the modern practice of their application can be traced back to Timoshenko, who is said to be the father of modern engineering mechanics.

Engineering mechanics can be subdivided into statics, strength of materials, dynamics, deformable bodies and fluid mechanics.
