Euro IV

From Free net encyclopedia

Template:Expert EURO IV is a set of emission standards applying to new road vehicles sold in the EU from 2005 or later. It limits diesel passenger car emissions to 0.25 g/km of NOx and 0.025 g/km of Particulate Matter (PM), petrol cars to 0.08 g/km NOx and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) to 3.5 g/kWh of NOx and 0.02 g/kWh of PM.

Though no specific technology is mandated to meet the requirements, the reductions in emissions are typically achieved through the use of either Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technologies.

For heavy duty diesel trucks Euro IV will be succeeded by Euro V, to be introduced in 2008 and coming into force in 2009. For passenger cars, a Euro V standard is not set yet but is currently considered by the European Commission in the proposed regulation COM(2005) 683 final.
