EverQuest universe
From Free net encyclopedia
The EverQuest universe is a fictional universe where the EverQuest games take place.
The original EverQuest game is the MMORPG, "EverQuest" - a constantly evolving and ever-expanding collection of playable areas called "zones" which are linked together and through which players can venture. (See Zones of EverQuest) Each zone is part of a city, region, or continent or plane and ranges from tunnels to dungeons to above-ground areas such as plains, forests, snow-covered hills, castles, and canyons.
Most of the playable areas are located on the numerous continents of the fictional planet of Norrath. Norrath has several moons, of which Luclin is the only one with playable zones. In addition, there are alternate planes of existence, called planes, which are the homes of the various EverQuest deities, and are not physically located on Norrath.
The universe expands
Since Everquest's release in March 1999, Sony Online Entertainment has added eleven expansions to accompany it, and several different newer EverQuest-related games of various types that are all set in Norrath. These additional games include Champions of Norrath (PS2 - February 2004) and its expansion Champions: Return to Arms (PS2 - February 2005), EverQuest II (PC, MMORPG sequel to EverQuest - November 2004), EverQuest Online Adventures (PS2 - February 2003), Lords of EverQuest (PC real-time strategy - December 2003), and EverQuest Role-Playing Game (a tabletop roleplaying game produced in collaboration with White Wolf which uses the d20 system).
Everquest was the most popular mmorpg of its time and spawned a wave of companies trying to mimic its success.
