Fallout Boy is a fictional character in the universe of the animated television show The Simpsons. In the series, Fallout Boy first appeared in a 1950s Radioactive Man film serial shown at a comic book convention in the episode "Three Men and a Comic Book". However, unlike many Simpsons characters, he has only made a handful of appearances since.
Radioactive Man: The Movie
In the episode "Radioactive Man", Hollywood producers decide to make a blockbuster film of the Radioactive Man comic book and film it in Springfield. Rainier Wolfcastle is chosen for the lead, and auditions are held for the role of Fallout Boy. Bart is the obvious choice for the role, but is an inch too short. The role subsequently goes to Bart's friend Milhouse Van Houten. This causes a rift between Bart and Milhouse, exacerbated by the fact that Milhouse only went to the audition because his mother made him. He grows tired of having to do scenes over and over, eventually running away to Bart's treehouse during an especially expensive acid-spilling scene. The rift between Bart and Milhouse is resolved by the end of the show, when Lisa reasons that if Milhouse becomes famous he will need someone to help him and throw whiskey bottles at when he's down.
Bongo Comics
Additionally, Fallout Boy also appears in a real-life comic book titled Radioactive Man, published by Bongo Comics (a comic created in part by Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons) . In these comic books, Fallout Boy's real name is Rod Runtledge, he has a brother named Dodd Runtledge, and they live in Zenith City. Rod is a high school nerd living with his aunt, Aunt June, an obvious reference to Spider-Man's alter ego, Peter Parker, who lives with his Aunt May.
Trivia
While performing on a college campus, an as-yet-unnamed band asked the audience what they should call themselves. An audience member yelled out "Fallout Boy." The band liked the name, and they are now known as the popular pop-rock band Fall Out Boy.
