History

Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works, the company that later became known as Faygo Beverages, Inc.(Faygo), was founded in Detroit on November 4, 1907 by Russian immigrants Ben and Perry Feigenson. The original flavors of Faygo were based on cake frosting recipes used by the Feigensons in Russia. Throughout the twentieth century, Faygo steadily increased its production line. Faygo is credited with the spreading of the word "pop" instead of "soda" to mean soft drink in the Midwest. Faygo pop is manufactured in a myriad of flavors. In 1998, Faygo Beverages, Inc. began distributing the Ohana brand of non-carbonated soft drinks. Faygo Beverages, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Beverage Corp., which also own Shasta Beverages, Inc. Many Faygo brand flavors are shared with Shasta brands, for example:

Trivia

  • Faygo is the brand of pop preferred by the Rap group Insane Clown Posse. They exclusively spray diet Faygo into audiences at their live concerts, and work the pop into their music. For example, on their album The Great Milenko, the group sings about creating a voodoo potion. All they need to complete the mix is " a little itty bitty little drip of Faygo". Fans of the band, known as Juggalos, often start drinking the soda on a regular basis.
  • It is rumored that the recipe for Faygo's "Moon Mist" was purchased from PepsiCo, who marketed it as Mountain Dew Blue Shock.
