Fireball

The term fireball is often used in reference to any large explosion or burst of fire.
The word has additional meanings:
- In a nuclear explosion, a fireball is the volume of air around the bomb that is heated to incandescence.
- In astronomy, a fireball refers to a bolide, which is a meteor large enough to be apparently brighter than the planet Jupiter. Fireballs frequently leave a trail which can be visible for several minutes (glowworms), and can sometimes produce a noise loud enough to be audible from the ground during or shortly after the period in which the fireball is observed.
- A Primordial Fireball is a term coined by P.J.E. Peebles to describe the universe during its first 300,000 years of existence. The fireball supposedly derived most of its energy from the annihilation of particles and antiparticles during the first second after the Big Bang.
- A Fireball in Quantum chromodynamics is the hot volume that is created when large particles are collided together at an energy that is high enough to create quark-gluon plasma.
- Fireball is a character in a British Comic book called Bullet (which was later absorbed into the comic Warlord) that was published during the 1970s.
- A Fireball (dinghy) is a popular type of sailing dinghy.
- Fireball (album) is the sixth studio album released by the British hard rock band Deep Purple in 1971.
- Fireball (pinball) is a historically notable pinball machine model released by Bally in 1972.
- In fantasy role-playing games, a fireball is a basically a magical grenade created by a spell: a wizard points at the target, casts the spell, and a ball of fire whizzes off at the target, exploding on impact.
- In fighting games, fireballs were the name commonly attributed to Ryu and Ken's Hadoken moves in Street Fighter II, and currently refer to any projectile move, energy or otherwise, that a character is capable of throwing.
- In the Super Mario Bros. video games, the Fire Flower is a weapon used by Mario and Luigi to shoot fireballs.
- Fireball XL5 was a British 1960s television series.
- Ball of Fire is a 1941 comedy film.
- Fireball Zone is an album from Ric Ocasek.
- Fireball Roberts was a highly regarded NASCAR driver.
- The Ryan FR Fireball was a World War II-era United States aircraft.
- Atomic Fireballs are hot cinnamon-flavored hard candies.
- Jerry Lee Lewis once described a lover as a fireball, or Great Balls of Fire.
- In the television series Charmed, throwing or conjuring fireballs is a well-known power.
- The McMaster Engineering Fireball is the official symbol of the Faculty of Engineering and the Engineering Society at McMaster University.
- One of the stalkers from the movie The Running Man.
- A major character in the animated television series Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs.
