Template:Infobox University Flinders University, or The Flinders University of South Australia, is located in Adelaide, South Australia and was established in 1966. The university was named after Australian navigator and explorer Matthew Flinders. Flinders occupies an attractive elevated site south of the CBD, with views over the Adelaide Plains and towards Gulf St. Vincent. A medium-sized institution, the main campus is located alongside Flinders Medical Centre which houses the medical school. Flinders University is a member of Innovative Research Universities Australia (IRU Australia). Flinders University has two forms of on-campus accommodation for students - the Diedre Jordan Village and University Hall.

A relatively young institution, Flinders has established a reputation as a prestigious modern university, with a claimed devotion to innovation. It claims to offer a progressive, vibrant and stimulating environment in which to work or study and has a long-held reputation as the "students' university". For example, students can object to a subject's assessment procedure if they feel it is unreasonable, and their input will be considered. The rights of students are protected and represented by the Students' Association of Flinders University (SAFU), which publishes the students' newspaper, Empire Times. Postgraduate students are represented by the Flinders Postgraduate Student Association (PGSA), a member of the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations.

It has a high research profile and consistently ranks among Australia's top universities on a per capita basis for research spending and for the citation of work in professional journals. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration between disciplines.

The establishment of the Centre for Neuroscience has helped to increase the prestige of Flinders as an institution as well as provide a unified body for neuroscientific research. The Flinders University School of International Studies and Politics is also a nationally respected faculty. The University is set to become the South Australian partner of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.
