Forbes is an American business and financial magazine founded in 1917 by B.C. Forbes. After his death in 1954 and his son Bruce's death in 1964, it was long synonymous with his flamboyant second son Malcolm Stevenson Forbes (1917–1990). Today, the company, which also has online and broadcast operations, is headed by Malcolm Stevenson "Steve" Forbes Jr. (1948–) and his brothers.
The magazine is headquartered on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The current editor is William Baldwin; the current managing editor is Dennis Kneale; the publisher is Richard Karlgaard.
Forbes has generated spinoff magazines: Forbes FYI, Forbes Asia and seven local language editions. The company also publishes American Heritage, American Heritage of Invention & Technology and American Legacy. Steve Forbes and his magazine's writers offer investment advice on the weekly Fox show Forbes on Fox.
Forbes's Web site, Forbes.com bills itself as "Home Page For The World's Business Leaders". It features in-depth coverage of current events. Founded by David Churbuck, the current president and chief executive officer is James J. Spanfeller; the current editor is Paul Maidment; the current managing editor is Daniel Bigman. It drew considerable attention when it uncovered Stephen Glass' journalistic fraud in The New Republic. It was a scoop that gave new credibility to internet journalism.
