Australia built a 4 DR MODEL based on the usa 50s CROWN VICTORIA fairlane from 1953 to 1959 and called it A CUSTOMLINE -the ford flagship its motor a 272-292 Y block v8 with 3 speed auto or manual made this vehicle suitable and very popular for farmers and business people as it was a large six seater offering luxurious appointments as leather bench seats,powerful motor and towing capabilities With some describing a ride in a customline as one as being in a luxury armchair and floating down the road .

with the new model being 1955-1959 a large car being 6 metres long and using the 55 -56 style front body panels from Canada and USA and utilizing thunderbird guards, rear quarters & taillights.(a 4 dr of the 56 crown victoria )

the grill underwent cosmetic changes with a similar USA 55 grille with two circular clear indicators mid way either side, 56-57 saw wrap around indicator lenses with the same body panels and different side mouldings 58-59 saw the most popular styling in the home grown sedan using a combination of niagra and USA 55 grille style ..a large chrome star with v8 chrome emblem in centre of grille with indicators same as 55 model ..known locally as "the star model hence the grille . other changes saw a z flash moulding on side and 3 speed automatic called fordomatic . interior had reteo 50s style jukebox looking speedo dash with am radio ,heater,clock,guages . this model was the rolls royce of the ford fleet at the time .

In its later years it was a well sought after vehicle on the used car market due to its 2 ton weight and displacement as a favourite with big families or at demolition car derbys where brute strength ruled and the v8 272 sought by boaties as the perfect inboard boat motor

Customlines but now a highly collectible vehicle with very few remaining intact and as in the past many have become customized cars with larger engine changes as a favourite among hotrodders australia wide .

A favourite is the 1958-59 "STAR MODEL " With its signature 9" chrome star emblazzoned centre of the shiny chrome grille with a large "v " supporting the star.. The customline LATER Become the predessor of the "barge"60s fairlane

The Customline A icon and folklore of australian history as older folk remember someone taking the family on long highway trips with mum dad and 4 kids on board comfortably and the bigroar and thump of the throaty v8 racing up the highway with the James dean wannabe teen at the wheel or with his sweetheart sitting alongside on the leather benchseat at the drive -in movie watching the double showing of the movies of days gone by ..
