Ford Zephyr

The Ford Zephyr was a car manufactured by the Ford Motor Company in the United Kingdom. It was a larger saloon to complement the Ford Consul. The Zephyr and its luxury variant, the Zephyr Zodiac which appeared in 1955, were the largest passenger cars in the British Ford range from 1950 to 1971 before being replaced by a larger Ford Consul and Granada.
The cars shown here is a Mk I model made from 1951-55, and a Mk II made from 1956 -61. The pictured Mk II is a late model, a so called "lowline" due to a flatter roof pressing. The Mk III range was made from 1962 until the completely new Zephyr/Zodiac Mk IV was released in 1966. This car was a design that more resembles one of the later Consul/Granada range with V-engines and individual rear suspension.
Although the Ford Zephyr never saw American production or sales, the nameplate itself has appeared on other American Ford-related cars: the Mercury Zephyr was an upscale version of the Ford Fairmont, and the Lincoln Zephyr began its second production run in 2006 (the first incarnation ran from 1936 to 1942).

Zephyr 6 (Mk III)

The Zephyr/Zodiac mk.III shared many of its components, as well as the basic design with the former mk.II. The exterior was drawn by canadian Roy Brown who also designed the Edsel and the Cortina, though the rear of the body was inspired by a design proposal by Frua. With the same 2553 cc displacement as before, the mk.III model had higher compression ratio resulting in some 20 hp. higher output as well as a broader torque range. The former models was also built as convertibles and pickups, but these was discontinued for the mk.III range.

Zephyr 4 (Mk III)

Rather than call their smallest model the Consul as before, Ford UK called it a Zephyr with a 4 to show it had the 4 cylinder engine - the 4 cylinder engine of the Consul it replaced.
