- Fritz - a German name. It may be short for Friedrich (= Frederick). Common shortenings from Fritsche, Fritche, Fritsh as Americans could not easily pronounce or remember the longer version.

- Fritz (chess) - a German chess program.
- Fritz-chip - a secure cryptoprocessor of the Trusted Computing Group.
- Fritz the Cat - a cartoon character of Crumb.

- “On the fritz” refers to something (specifically an appliance) which is broken or malfunctioning. To “go on the fritz" is slang for electric or electronic equipment going wrong. Likely imitating the noise of electric sparks. It originally developed as slang during the late 19th early 20th century. Also referred to as "on the bum" or "on the blink".
