Furikake
From Free net encyclopedia
Furikake 振り掛け (ふりかけ) is a Japanese condiment usually sprinkled on top of rice. It typically consists of a mixture of sesame seeds, chopped seaweed, sugar, salt, and monosodium glutamate. Other flavorful ingredients such as dried skipjack tuna shavings (katsuobushi: 鰹節 or かつおぶし), salmon, etc. are often added to the mix.
Furikake can be found in most Asian groceries, or in the Ethnic food aisle of most major supermarkets. Japanese or Asian students who are short on money often eat furikake as the sole condiment in a meal consisting of plain rice.
