Gush Dan

Gush Dan (Hebrew: גּוּשׁ דָּן, Standard Hebrew Guš Dan) is the name of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area including areas from both the Tel Aviv District and the Central District of Israel on the Mediterranean coast.
It is the largest metropolitan area in Israel, with a population of approximately 2.4 million. It is divided into an inner and an outer layer.
The inner layer includes Tel Aviv, Bat Yam, Holon, Ramat Hasharon, Ramat Gan, Giv'atayim, Bnei Brak, Herzliya, Or Yehuda, Giva'at Shmuel and Qiryat Ono, as well as a multitude of towns (local councils).
The outer layer includes Petah Tikva, Hod Hasharon, Kfar Saba, Raanana, Yehud, Ramla, Lod, Rishon LeZion, Ness Ziona and Rehovot, as well as a multitude of towns (local councils).
Gush Dan also has its own bus transportation company, Dan Bus Company, which is the equivalent of Egged, Israel's biggest bus company, and the 2nd biggest in the world.
The area also has a network of highways, such as the Ayalon Highway, Route 2, and Route 4.
The name Gush Dan means "Dan Block", and is so named because the area was the territory of the tribe of Dan in the ancient Kingdom of Israel.
