Guugu Yimithirr
From Free net encyclopedia
The Guugu Yimithirr are an aboriginal tribe of Australia. The name also refers to their language. There are still several hundred speakers of the language, mostly living in and around Hopevale, Cooktown, and Wujal Wujal on Cape York Peninsula in northern Queensland.
They met explorer James Cook when he arrived near present day Cooktown in 1770, and the name of the kangaroo comes from the word in their language gangurru (Template:IPA).
