Hazleton is a city located in Buchanan County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 950.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.13% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 950 people, 381 households, and 252 families residing in the city. The population density was 495.7/km² (1,276.4/mi²). There were 409 housing units at an average density of 213.4/km² (549.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.32% White, 0.00% African American, 0.95% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. 2.11% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 381 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% were non-families. 26.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 104.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,625, and the median income for a family was $36,023. Males had a median income of $27,460 versus $21,625 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,955. 11.6% of the population and 11.4% of families were below the poverty line. 14.0% of those under the age of 18 and 6.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
