Hoenn

From Free net encyclopedia

Hoenn (pronounced Hoe-en and spelled Hōen in Japan) is a last name and is also a region in the Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald games.

Hoenn is roughly based on Kyushu in Japan (flipped by 90 degrees and smaller, possibly influenced by the Shikoku region as well) and lies to the south-west of Kanto and Johto in the Pokémon world.

It is said that the Hoenn region was formed by the legendary land Pokémon, Groudon, raising the land and the legendary ocean Pokémon, Kyogre, expanding the sea.

The Hoenn region also contains its own Pokémon League, called the Hoenn League, and its own Elite 4, unlike Johto and Kanto which share their Elite 4 in the video games. Sidney, Phoebe, Glacia, and Drake are the members of the Elite 4 in Hoenn. In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Steven is the Pokémon Champion, while in Pokémon Emerald, Wallace is the Pokémon Champion. (Wallace's position as Sootopolis Gym Leader is being filled by his mentor Juan in this game.)

In the anime, this is the region where the Advanced Generation series occur as Ash and company explore this whole new region featuring more than 100 new Pokémon. Also in the anime, a Kingdom called the Mirage Kingdom is located between routes 111 and 112. LaRousse City, which was in the movie Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys is in the east of the region.

Important landscape features include a large river that flows through Route 119 (leading up to the western entrance to Fortree City), Petalburg Forest (between Petalburg City and Rustboro City), Mt. Chimney (north of Lavaridge Town), and Mt. Pyre (where the Red and Blue Orbs can be found).

The Battle Tower, introduced in Pokémon Crystal is found in the south of Hoenn, and is only accessible by flight or ferry. In Pokémon Emerald, it evolves into the giant Battle Frontier.
