HOF also sometimes stands for Higher order function, a concept in programming languages like Haskell or Scheme.

Hof means "farm", "farmhouse" or "courtyard" in German. Due to this meaning, there are several villages in the German-speaking areas of Europe that carry this name, in adition to the mentioned towns.
