Howe is a town located in Grayson County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,478.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.0 km² (3.9 mi²). 10.0 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 2,478 people, 924 households, and 693 families residing in the town. The population density was 247.9/km² (641.2/mi²). There were 997 housing units at an average density of 99.7/km² (258.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 94.87% White, 0.52% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 2.10% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. 4.56% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 924 households out of which 44.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% were married couples living together, 15.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% were non-families. 21.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.14.

In the town the population was spread out with 31.9% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $34,963, and the median income for a family was $41,125. Males had a median income of $34,625 versus $22,829 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,664. 12.4% of the population and 9.9% of families were below the poverty line. 12.4% of those under the age of 18 and 20.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
