Huang is the transliteration of the Chinese surname (Template:Zh-stp), which also has the literal meaning yellow. It is the 7th largest number of people with this surname in Mainland China.
It is transliterated to Wong, Vong, Bong, Ng, Wee, Oi, Oei or Ooi, Ong or Hwang due to dialect-language variations. The surname is known as Hoàng or as Huỳnh in Vietnamese, and Hwang or Whang in Korean.
Huang is the 7th most common surname in China, with a population of more than 29 million (2000 estimate); the 3rd most common surname in Taiwan, with a population of 6% Taiwanese(1.4 million, 2005 estimate). It is also the name of more than 2 million overseas Chinese, many Vietnamese (no data available), and an estimated 1 million Koreans (The 2000 census of South Korea revealed it was the surname for 644,294 South Koreans, ranked 17th).
