Hunting Valley, Ohio

Hunting Valley is a wealthy, suburban village located east of Cleveland in Cuyahoga and Geauga counties in Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 735 and was ranked the 6th highest-income place in the United States.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 20.7 km² (8.0 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 735 people, 284 households, and 241 families residing in the village. The population density was 35.6/km² (92.1/mi²). There were 317 housing units at an average density of 15.3/km² (39.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.05% White, 0.14% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.14% from two or more races. 0.54% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 284 households out of which 27.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.8% were married couples living together, 4.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.1% were non-families. 13.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 2.80.

In the village the population was spread out with 21.6% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 14.4% from 25 to 44, 35.9% from 45 to 64, and 23.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 51 years. For every 100 females there were 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village was in excess of $200,000, as is the median income for a family. Males had a median income of over $100,000 versus $42,083 for females. The per capita income for the village was $144,281. 2.3% of the population and 2.1% of families were below the poverty line. 0.6% of those under the age of 18 and none of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Notable Facts

Hunting Valley is home to University School, an all-boys day school in the Greater Cleveland Area.

Was the possible inspiration for the fictional town of "Hunting Hills" in Cleveland, OH in the book "The Secret Lives of Fortunate Wives"
