Incus
From Free net encyclopedia
Template:Infobox Bone This article refers to a bone in the mammalian ear. For the artist-owned record label specialising in the dissemination of free-improvised music set up by Derek Bailey and Evan Parker, see Incus (record label).
The incus is the anvil-shaped small bone or ossicle in the middle ear. It connects the malleus to the stapes. It was first described by Alessandro Achillin of Bologna.
The incus only exists in mammals, and is derived from a reptilian upper jaw bone, the quadrate.
