Infinity Ward

From Free net encyclopedia

Infinity Ward, located in Encino, California, is a computer game developer founded by the former employees of 2015, developers of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. The studio was acquired by Activision in October 2003.

Infinity Ward recently on their website put up a request for a "Senior Next-Gen Console Programmer", and listed was "New IP and COD3", which in all likelihood refers to Call of Duty 3, although the reference to it has since been removed. It is still unknown what the other game will be.

Community Controversy

There has been historical tension between much of the hardcore fans of Infinity Ward's games and the organization itself, concerning issues of post-release support from the developers. Specifically, many fans have been upset with Infinity Ward's alleged lack of communication concerning patches, and little response from Infinity Ward in the past to claims of game engine issues that were limiting modders from producing to their full potential.

In December 2005, some members of the multiplayer Call of Duty 2 community organized via posts on Infinity Ward's own official forums a 24 hour game server shutdown or passwording to decry the lack of support the community felt Infinity Ward was offering.[1]. After the server shutdown, in which approximately 25% of Call of Duty 2's game servers were closed or shut down, Infinity Ward's owners, Activision, responded with a statement that claimed Infinity Ward's developers had received a vacation after the release of the game, and announced planned patches for the game.

It is believed that Infinity Ward has been receiving protest threats by Gamers for releasing what gamers felt was a poor Multiplayer Section for Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox 360.

On March 21, 2006, Infinity Ward and Activision released a Title Update via Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 2. The TU addressed many multiplayer issues related to COD2 on the 360 including performance, reserved player spots, post-game lobbies, configurable host options, and more.

Infinity Ward and Activision have revealed that a PC patch will come "soon".
