Jean Metzinger
From Free net encyclopedia
Image:Metzinger cycle track.jpg Jean Metzinger (1883-1956) was a French painter.
Initially he was influenced by Fauvism and Impressionism, but from 1908 he was associated with Cubism. He was a member of the Section d'Or group of artists.
Together with Albert Gleizes, Metzinger wrote the first major treatise on Cubism, Du Cubisme, in 1912. Though never on a par with Picasso and Braque, he was nevertheless a superbly talented painter with a great eye and a lively spirit.
In the latter stages of his career, he moved away from cubism towards realism, but retained some elements of cubist style.
