Kalamazoo Kings

From Free net encyclopedia

The Kalamazoo Kings are a minor league baseball team based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The team is a member of the independent Frontier League, and is not associated with any Major League Baseball team. Players are able to sign with Major League Baseball organizations throughout the Frontier League season.

The team plays at Homer Stryker Field, and their games are broadcast on Kalamazoo radio stations WKLZ and WQSN. In 2005, the Kings won their first Frontier League Championship.

The Kalamazoo Kings were created in the early 1800's by the well established law firm HTS and associates. The belief was that by encouraging a local sports team, local drunkenness would hit a all time high, thus promoting business. Due to prohibition this plan was doomed to fail. The would be players of this team who were as unfortunate to sign with the HTS were forced to become rum runners. This ultimatley led to the colapse of the team and the community. In the end the city was vacated and wasn't again populated until the 1930's.
